The Impossible Lab Universal: Turning Pixels Into Analogue Photos
Transform digital images on your smartphone or tablet into classic instant photos. For use with the latest version of the free Impossible Project App, available now for iOS and Android.
The Instant Lab Universal isn’t a printer. It’s a camera. It exposes the images on your smartphone or tablet’s screen onto Impossible’s Polaroid™-format instant film via a photographic process – mirroring the traditional darkroom environment. Just load the camera with your film, download or update the Impossible Project App and you’re ready to go!
Crafted for Compatibility
The Instant Lab Universal is designed to work with the latest high-definition smartphones and tablets on the market today using the updated Impossible Project App, available free for iOS and now Android. The App guides you through the process of using the Instant Lab Universal step-by-step. Crop and edit your image in advance and set exposure times according to your film of choice. When you’re ready, place your device on the new cradle, expose your image to the film, eject the photo and then watch it develop in the palm of your hand.If you want to share your analog creations online, the App also features a scanner so you can transfer the moment back onto any device with ease.
Plays Nice With Everybody
Your favourite digital images are too good to stay trapped behind a screen. The Instant Lab Universal creates real photos you can hold from the pixels on your smartphone or tablet. Every photo you create is one of a kind because the film we make uses chemical ingredients that change and respond to temperature and light. As the picture emerges, you’re watching one of the most complex chemical reactions known to man. It looks like magic, but really it’s just good chemistry. The Instant Lab Universal works with Impossible B&W and Color film for Polaroid™ 600 and SX-70 cameras. This also includes our limited Special Editions with round, coloured or patterned frames, our artistic black frame films as well as classic Polaroid™-format white.
Get the Vintage Look
The photos developed by the Impossible Instant Lab Universal have a unique vintage look & feel which is reminiscent of a traditional Polaroid photo.
Forget About Pixels
Unlike a photo printer, the Instant Lab doesn't spray ink onto paper. In fact it is bridging the gap between the worlds of digital and analogue: Being a real camera, it uses a special four element coated glass lens to take a photo from your iPhone's display and lets it develop inside the layers of the integral film. It's a purely photochemical process that results in a unique analogue photo that is completely different from the output of a printer. Get an Instant Lab now and try it for yourself – you'll be amazed.
Fall In Love Easily
The Instant Lab is designed to be operated as easy as possible. No unnecessary dials, buttons, controls. Simply place your phone on the cradle, pull the shutter slide out, then back in and press the eject button – that's it. The Impossible Project app guides you through the whole process and helps you getting the best results. Many details guarantee a smooth experience – the app takes care of perfect exposure times, the cradle holds your iPhone or iPod touch perfectly, and the built-in frog tongue protects your photo from unwanted light during development. It also comes with a USB power-cord to charge the Instant Lab's battery wherever you are. Falling in love with instant photography has never been easier.
