A great all-rounded lens with wide-angle capability. Its 10-30mm focal range (35mm equivalent: 27-81mm) can cover various shooting situations. The built-in Vibration Reduction unit ensures steady stills and movies, and Nikon’s Stepping Motor offers super-quiet autofocus performance — which is especially handy when filming
Meet the new Nikon 1 J5, the chic and compact interchangeable lens camera with a 20.8-megapixel image sensor. Achieve impeccable imagery with unbelievably fast continuous shooting speeds of 20 frames per second with autofocus tracking and videos up to 4K/15p. With an 180° upward-tilting LCD monitor with touch screen, full manual control, new effects and even built-in Wi-Fi® and NFC*4 technology for sharing your photos on-the-go, the J5 is the perfect culmination of power, flexibility, speed and style, all in the palm of your hand.
Quicker than a DSLR, the J5 has the shortest shooting time lag*1 and the world’s fastest*2 continuous shooting frame rate of approximately 20 frames per second (fps) with autofocus (AF) tracking and up to around 60 fps when the focus is locked*3. Instantly identify and focus on your subject with a cutting-edge AF system that utilises 105 phase detect AF points to capture your subject with ease. A new Sports Mode optimises the J5 for fast-action, so you can switch from shooting pre-game portraits to capturing action on the field, without missing a play.
The J5 utilises 20.8 megapixels and a new back-side illuminated CX-format CMOS image sensor that gathers more light, for faster shutter speeds and enhanced low-light capabilities. Nikon’s new EXPEED 5A image-processing engine ensures rich colours, smooth tones and razor-sharp details in every photo and Full HD video. Turn up the ISO from 160 to 12800 to shoot clear imagery even in low-light situations, and enjoy improved noise reduction even at high sensitivities.
A technological breakthrough that is revolutionizing autofocus throughout the camera industry, hybrid AF systems combine fast phase-detection AF with the precision and low-light capability of contrast-detect AF. Nikon 1 J5’s advanced hybrid AF system is incorporated on the CMOS image sensor and represents the pinnacle of this breakthrough technology. Featuring 171 AF points tightly packed over nearly the entire frame — of which 105 are phase-detection points — this cutting-edge system offers superb focus accuracy for any scene. Whether shooting action at breakneck speed beyond the reach of digital SLRs or leisurely moments in a cozy setting, Nikon 1 J5 has you covered. The tiny points make it possible to select exactly the area on which to focus. This coupled with the nearly full-frame coverage lets you compose without having to worry about blurry results even when your subject lies at the peripheries.
Get the jump on fast-moving subjects to capture moments at the height of expression. Nikon 1 J5’s advanced hybrid AF system features 105 phase-detection AF points that respond quickly and precisely to rapidly changing scenes. Phase-detection AF is notable for its accuracy at extremely fast focus speeds, allowing you to snap into razor-sharp focus instantaneously. What makes this feature so remarkable is the sheer number of phase-detection AF points and their placement. All 105 are closely spaced and cover the entire central area of the frame, capably handling nearly any type of action photo. A grab-shot on a city street, an athlete in the heat of battle, or a wild jump for joy. Anything that moves is now yours to bring home in sensational, action-packed photos.
Capturing your best side has been made even easier with the J5. A first for Nikon 1 cameras, the 3 inch tilting LCD monitor tilts upwards to approximately 180° and downwards to approximately 86°. Together with the touch screen feature, the J5 puts the control at your fingertips and lets you shoot from any creative angle your heart desires. The new Self-Portrait mode, along with Glamour Retouch function that retouches your features, offers skin softening, self-timer and exposure compensation features, ensuring that you look stunning in every photo.
The J5 incorporates a modern, minimalistic yet stylish design that’s built for stress-free photography. The new Command Dial makes it easy to navigate the camera’s intuitive menu system and the improved grip lets you control the camera with just one hand. Quickly recall your favourite menu or setting with a customisable Function button, conveniently located on the camera, helping you bring your creative vision to life.
Whether you’re at home or on-the-road, sharing and uploading your pictures is a breeze. The J5’s built-in Wi-Fi® and NFC*4 capabilities allow your pre-selected images to be transferred to smart devices once connected via the free Wireless Mobile Utility app*5, available for iOS and Android devices. You can even use your smart device to remotely shoot and capture through the J5.
One second can be an eternity when shooting action, so Nikon 1 J5 leaves nothing to chance. Its remarkably fast 20 fps shooting speed far outperforms digital SLRs, pulling expressions from action sequences that most other cameras simply can’t catch. What can happen in a second? So much. A once-in-a-lifetime look. A death-defying leap. A thrilling goal. But you won’t really know until you give it a try and see for yourself. And don’t worry about keeping things in focus. 20 fps shooting is supported by continuous AF so that each shot is sharp and clear. As the decisive moment approaches, just press the shutter-release button. In one second, you’ll have 20 perfectly focused images, each revealing unique expressions like you’ve never seen before.
Set Nikon 1 J5 to capture fantastic sports shots with a turn of the mode dial. Selecting Sports mode adjusts all settings that you would normally have to make manually in order to ensure freeze-frame action photos. After releasing the shutter, the camera records a burst of images at up to 60 frames per second (fps), even in RAW format. You can immediately view the entire sequence as one group of shots. The default shooting speed of 10 fps can be set to 5, 20, 30 or 60 fps. And since Sports mode employs continuous AF (AF-C) when shooting at 5, 10 or 20 fps, your subject will always be in pinpoint focus*. * When shooting at 30 or 60 fps, autofocus is fixed at the first frame. Note: While photographs are being recorded to the memory card, the memory card access lamp will light. Depending on shooting conditions and memory card write speed, recording may continue for some time after shooting ends.
