Nikon D5500 DSLR Camera Body Only Details

A first for Nikon DSLRs, the D5500 features a touch screen vari-angle LCD monitor for limitless fun and creative shooting possibilities with easier handling. Flip out the large 3.2-inch display for an interesting new angle, then simply touch where you want to focus and shoot. The intuitive eye sensor switches off the information display when you bring the viewfinder to your eye and a new Touch Function gives you one-touch easy access to autofocus-area and aperture settings.  With 6 information display designs to choose from, you can finally customise the ideal look on your monitor.

Tracking your subject and keeping it at the centre of attention is now a breeze with a superior 39-point autofocus (AF) system. The speed of contrast-detect AF has also been vastly improved to achieve quicker focusing. Capturing your subject at great speeds is also easily achieved by shooting at an impressive 5 frames per second

As the world’s smallest and lightest Nikon DX-format camera*2, the D5500 measures just 124mm (width) x 97mm (height) x 70mm (depth) and weighs only 420g. It’s strengthened with a carbon fiber composite material*3 that’s as strong as metal. The revolutionary monocoque structure lightens the body of the camera, without adding unnecessary weight to the device. What makes it even easier to use is an ergonomic design that allows for better grip, giving you greater comfort in your hands.

Upload images to your social networks seamlessly by connecting the D5500’s built-in Wi-Fi® to your smart device. Simply download the free Wireless Mobile Utility app on your iOS or Android device*4 to transfer your images. You can also pre-select your images that get transferred automatically once you connect to Wi-Fi®. While you’re connected, you can continue to shoot, view, and playback. These connectivity capabilities also offer remote shooting functions that perfectly complement the vari-angle monitor to shoot self-portraits or scenic views while travelling. ** Wireless transfer of videos is only available on the Android OS **

Record high quality videos with smoother motion and richer colours with the D5500, which shoots in Full HD 60p format. The high performance image-processing engine minimises jaggies and moiré for sharper, crisper videos. With the D5500, memorable moments can now be relived in truly immersive, extraordinarily high definition films

Nikon AF-S DX 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Wide Zoom Lens Details

Nikon's AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens is a welcome addition to the Nikon DX-format DSLR systems, and an ideal counterpart to the D90 DSLR. This versatile optic offers much of the benefits of the enormously-popular 18-200mm VR lens but in a lighter, smaller body that takes a smaller filter as well.

The AF-S Silent Wave Motor in the 18-105mm VR yields speedy, silent, on-the-money AF performance with fulltime manual focus override. In particular, the AF-S motor keeps up with skittish, erratic subjects that overwhelm normal camera-driven-motor AF systems. You'll get more 'keeper' images of those fast-moving animals, athletes, children, vehicles and the like.

Along with the SWM (Silent Wave Motor), the 18-105 benefits from the VR Image Stabilizer built in to the lens, which will give you the ability to handhold the camera at shutter speeds up to three stops slower than would otherwise normally be possible. Always a benefit to a handheld pic, this is of particular usefulness whenever you're photographing slow-moving subjects in low light. The benefit of in-lens stabilization is seen in the viewfinder, making composing and capturing the image easier as well.

Note! Use of DX lenses are not recommended with 35mm cameras.

DX Lenses exclusively designed for Nikon digital SLRs with the DX-size sensor; equivalent focal length in 35mm terms is 27-157mm
VR (Vibration Reduction) minimizes camera-movement image blur, enabling handheld shooting ~3 stops slower
Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass element and aspherical lens element
Built-in A/M switch enables instant exchange between AF & manual focus
Silent Wave Motor for ultra-fast, ultra-quiet AF
Non-rotating front element eases use of polarizing filters
Rounded 7-blade aperture diaphragm renders pleasing out-of-focus highlights
