Melbourne, Victoria, June 1, 2012 - On the afternoon of Friday May 25th, 2012, crowds gathered in the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre auditorium for the announcement of the 2012 Imaging Dealer of the Year Award. With a large number of Australian photography professionals and industry leaders in attendance, Michaels Camera Video Digital was awarded the prestigious honour, received by Peter Michael, 5th generation and current Managing Director at Michaels.

For over 20 years, under the umbrella of PICA, IDEA (Imaging & Digital Entertainment Association) have presented an annual award to recognise a single retailer observed to have achieved the highest pinnacles of success. PICA organises this quest to encourage and reward high standards of retailing excellence. Representatives from around the country each nominate a worthy recipient and from these nominations a ballot form is drawn up for adjudication by senior management at each wholesaling company.

Competition is fierce with strict, wide ranging judging criteria. The Award for Outstanding Professionalism in Photographic and Imaging Retailing is decided on the following basis: Superior store presentation, store merchandising and forward planning, appropriate staff training and skills, timely account payments, successful and cooperative relationship with supplier company representative and store manager/owner and quality customer service.

This marks the third occasion on which Michaels have been honoured with the coveted Imaging Dealer of the Year Award. It has been presented to Alan Michael, father of Peter Michael, in 1988 and 1997 and now again to Peter Michael in 2012. “We look forward to continuing to deliver the standards we have been acknowledged for this year and ensuring the bar remains high for customer experience and service” said Peter Michael – Michaels Managing Director.
