The physical design of this lens enables a comfortable working distance from the front of the telescopic front element to the subject allowing amble room to place either flash or continuous lights. The small diameter of the end barrel also enhances the lighting options as there is less lens mass in the competing with your lights.
Variable magnification from 2.5 to 5x actual size with a focal length of only 25mm enables a close up view while at the same time providing greater depth of field. For focus stacking photographers, this can help cut down on the total number of images required to capture the subject.

As an all manual lens, using the Laowa 25mm will be a bit different than the much more expensive auto focus macro lenses on the market.
The front ring adjusts the aperture from f/2.8 down to f/16. The middle ring adjusts the magnification factor from 2.5 to 5x — extending the telescopic barrel at the same time.
There is no focus adjustment at all on this lens — focus is achieved physically by moving the camera/lens towards and away from the subject. The Laowa 25mm will be right at home with a dedicated macro slider head.

As all modern cameras now feature live view modes, manual focusing is very easy to achieve and control so there should be no reason to worry about not having auto focus with this very affordably priced macro lens.
