Tokina announces new Opera Series Premium Lenses starting with a 50mm f/1.4 for Canon and Nikon

Tokina kicks off their new 'Opera' series of lenses designed for high-spec full-frame DSLR cameras with a pair of fast 50mm f/1.4 models for Canon and Nikon.

Details are a bit on the light side for this new 50mm lens at this stage. A Canon mount prototype was recently shown at the CP+ 2018 Trade Event held in Yokohama Japan. Reports are that the lens is fairly large and the build quality is extremely solid with an excellent fit and finish. The focus ring is reported as nicely damped.

As with all of Tokina's lens offerings, we fully expect this new Opera 50mm f/1.4 to come in at a very aggressive price point. We should also expect to see more lenses in this new Opera series over time.
